Overtraining?

As usual, trainer extraordinaire Dutch Lowy has hit the nail on the head … overtraining?

He lists 8 potential examples in his overtraining post. I am posting the ones that pertain to me:

  1. Your _____ has started bothering you when you do ____.  (insert body part and specific movement) Shoulder & rotator cuff / anything & pushups & yoga
  2. You don’t sleep well even though you are really worn out. (we could also blame this on a change in sleeping situation since I moved, and that my blackout curtains don’t black things out as well as one would have hoped)
  3. You are in a constant state of soreness, even after 2 days off where you only ran a little and did some interval work but it was short… (does running the stairs once a day and taking the dog for walks count?)
  4. Training is not fun. Motivation is Low. (See this sad-sack post … I seem a lil lost)

Erm. But is it possible to have been overtraining two months ago and still feeling the effects of it? And how exactly does one go about un-overtraining? Undertraining, if you will?

Or more of that listening-to-your-body junk that no one is very good at?

I’m off to play at the river … after biking down to the library … noImdefinitelynotovertrainingwhatonearthwouldmakeyouthinkthat?

find a coach that understands what volume is necessary for you individually, your specific goals and knows when to MAKE you rest.

    • Thanks, Dutch! I’m honored to have you comment. :-)

  2. [...] I may have been overtraining, but I might also just be injured. Or [...]
